One day this week I forgot to bring my portable coffee mug with me from home. I realized it when I was a few blocks away from my job with a little extra time to spare so I stopped at Target. It's my top goto store for many quick buys of things used by members in my household.
My first high-quality portable coffee mug I bought is an Aladdin brand purchased from Target. It's stainless steel, pink and holds up to 16 ounces of liquid, hot or cold. I've been using it regularly for almost two years and am overall happy with it. The only problem is that it isn't completely fool spill proof. I've accidentally knocked it over on my desk a few times and had to wipe up very small spills. Certainly, it wasn't made to be knocked over without at least a drop of coffee sifting through the tightly screwed top, right? Of course not because I've proven this. It has sustained its intended purpose even though I've dropped it on the ground a couple of times with only small scrapes and no dents surprisingly. There's something great about stainless steel!
Will I ever purchase another Aladdin brand? Probably, but I can't say I'll be loyal.
The new mug I bought this week is a bubba brand. It happened to be on sale and the price was comparable to that of my former, plus it can hold up to 18 ounces of hot or cold liquids. What stands out most aside from the width and depth of the mug it has a sip snap top lid versus the twist around sip cover on my old mug. It's also pink and stainless steel.
Can I say that I'm over the top impressed with this mug? YES I CAN!!!
I threw it on the ground with coffee inside just to test its durability and my goodness this baby is rough and tough. Not one little drop of coffee spilled out nor did the sip snap unsnap as I thought it might. Call me crazy for risking damaging my brand new mug, but I was curious. I wanted to know if I could rely on it to hold every drop of my liquid if I accidentally dropped it or knocked it over in the future.
Will my new bubba mug now become my favorite? Probably.
Both mugs are priced higher than I wish to pay, however, that seems to be the case for my high quality preferences.
I'd rather pay one hefty price once than spend cheap repetitively which results in overspending on the same product that causes me to have an attitude of dissatisfaction towards the entire brand or store where I purchased.
Top Question:
Why do I purchase what I purchase when I buy what I buy?
There are 10 main reasons why my spending habits cause me to ponder on the aforementioned thought.
1. Some things I truly need and rely upon to compliment my daily routine. I define my needs as anything that I just can't be without in order to function properly, like food.
2. The mood I'm in plays a major role in how my money is spent. If I'm upset nothing I buy during that time satisfies completely and I'm more likely to regret making the purchase, but if I'm excited I may do some "happy" shopping.
3. When unexpected money lands in my hands I can't help but to treat myself and others... sometimes. I consider it as extra and before it's all gone I must be left with something to show for it.
4. In some settings I like to validate my equality by spending because I'm simply able. I don't usually have the means to purchase many things or services, but when I do I'm willing to go all out for myself... as I should.
5. Sales! In many instances I'll go inside of a store with the intent of purchasing one or two things. I end up leaving out with several items because I'm convinced that I'm saving more money in the long run by making early "sales" purchases.
6. I feel bored and want to see or try something new. Not often, but occasionally I have a strong desire to explore the unknown or at least what's unknown to me and it usually costs.
7. I am brainwashed believing that convenience is better. If it'll cost me, but save me time and stress I'll usually go for it.
8. I desire full access and VIP privileges. If I have the means to make the worthy choice I'll normally choose the upgrade.
9. There was a time when a particular purchase seemed far out of reach. I'll just refer to this spending habit as redemption!
10. Other people's feedback and excitement about any given thing. "Don't believe the hype," yet too often I do.
Ultimately, my personal goal is to become a wiser spender and to reduce the accumulation of random things over time that are doing nothing more than cluttering my dwelling space and mind.
